Explore Math Through Art: Cubism Math Activities 🎨➕

It’s International Artists Day and Pablo Picasso’s birthday this Saturday, which means it's the perfect time to celebrate how math and art come together! ❤️

A little about Cubism: Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, co-founded the Cubism movement. Cubism breaks objects into geometric shapes and reimagines them from multiple perspectives — a style that perfectly combines creativity with mathematical thinking. 

We’ve created a fun Cubism Math Activity Pack your child can enjoy at home or in the classroom. These hands-on activities blend creativity and geometry, helping kids see math in a whole new way:

✨ Download the pack for five different animals to practice with! 

Instructions

1. Draw basic geometric shapes (like triangles, rectangles, and circles) over the animal photo to break the image into simple shapes and create a more abstract version of the animal.
2. Re-draw the animal in the empty square on the right using your shapes, in the style of Cubism.
3. Add colour! Use bold or unexpected colours, just like the Cubists did.

Each printable sheet encourages your child to explore shapes, angles, and symmetry — all while discovering the artistic style that changed modern art forever.
