At Mathnasium of Glasgow South, we use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach, to help children understand maths rather than memorise their way through it. We combine personalised learning plans with mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques to meet each child exactly where they are in their maths journey.
We focus on building the foundation for lasting maths mastery, including the critical thinking and problem-solving skills that carry through every stage of school.
Mathnasium of Glasgow South's specially trained instructors work with children from Nursery through to National 5 at our centre on Ayr Road in Newton Mearns, or online via Mathnasium@home.
Sessions take place in the supportive and fun environment of our learning centre, where each child receives individual, face-to-face instruction guided by their own personalised learning plan.
At Mathnasium of Glasgow South, each student begins enrolment with a diagnostic assessment designed to give us an accurate picture of how they learn, what they already know and where the knowledge gaps are.
From there, we build a personalised learning plan that closes knowledge gaps in the right order, so each new topic sits on solid ground rather than papering over what came before.

Philip
Centre Manager
I have been an instructor at Mathnasium in London for over a year prior to this exciting new role in Glasgow ! In my previous role I had worked closely with students of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
I love exploring how young minds perceive logic and problem-solving, especially in maths, where patterns emerge everywhere - from numbers to nature. Seeing students tackle complex problems with their own reasoning and confidently defend their logic is what makes teaching so rewarding for me.
Before moving into education, I spent three years as an Advanced Tax Analyst at Ernst & Young, applying analytical and numerical skills in a high-level corporate environment. I hold an M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Liverpool and a B.Sc. (triple major) in Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics from CHRIST university in Bangalore, India.
I thrive on challenges, enjoy brain-melting maths problems, and aim to be the ultimate problem-solver (even trying to outsmart ChatGPT!). Outside of teaching, I’m an avid coffee drinker, a keen cyclist, and a lifelong learner. I also enjoy video games—because problem-solving isn’t just for the classroom!
They say change is the only constant and that is one of the main reasons as to why I embarked upon this challenging yet rewarding venture at Mathnasium of Glasgow South. Being the first centre in Scotland, I plan to leave behind a legacy of mathematical wizards who weave their own destiny !
Matthew
Mathnasium Instructor
Hi, I'm Matthew and I am currently studying Aero-Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde.
I have always loved maths and want to help others enjoy the subject as much as I do. I especially love how maths relates to everything we use in our day to day lives and want to show people just how fun maths can be!
Aside from maths, I really enjoy playing guitar, listening to music and hiking in the highlands with my friends!
Laura
Mathnasium Instructor
Hi, my name is Laura and I'm in second year at Glasgow University studying Maths and accounting.
I've always loved maths, all through primary, secondary and now University. I love problem solving and helping others find the same passion for maths that I have.
Outside of uni and work, I love performing and am part of 2 amateur dramatics groups. I am also partial to a good pub quiz or cinema trip.
Whether they would like to attend sessions in-centre or online, students can take 3 easy steps to enrol at Mathnasium.
All students begin their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints what they already know and what they still need to learn.

Mathnasium of Glasgow South works with children from Nursery through to National 5, roughly ages 3 to 16, across the Curriculum for Excellence from Early Level through to the Senior Phase.
Wherever a child is in their schooling, whether they've just started Nursery or are working towards their National 5 exams, we can guide them towards their maths goals and long-term mastery.
Our instructors cover the full range of primary and secondary maths, from early number sense and numeracy through to the algebra, geometry, statistics and trigonometry children meet as they progress through the Curriculum for Excellence.
As every child follows a personalised learning plan, sessions target the specific topics they find most challenging rather than working through a fixed sequence. For instance, if your child needs to shore up fractions in P5 or sharpen algebra ahead of National 5 prelims, that's where we focus.
Private tutors typically follow what a child brings to that day's session, such as a worksheet, a homework problem or an upcoming test. Mathnasium of Glasgow South starts from a different point entirely.
At our centre, every child's sessions follow a learning plan tailored to their learning needs, style and goals. The learning plan is designed to address their specific knowledge gaps and help them (re)build maths foundations necessary for further progress. Along the way, we focus on building the student's critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will serve them in the classroom and beyond.
At Mathnasium of Glasgow South, we do not follow a traditional curriculum. We use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach, built on the idea that any child can learn maths with caring guidance and instruction that makes sense to them.
In practice, our instructors combine mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques with personalised, assessment-based learning plans to teach maths in a way each child learns best. Instructors also leave time for schoolwork, so sessions can complement what children are covering in school under the Curriculum for Excellence.
Mathnasium of Glasgow South works with children of all skill levels, whether they need to catch up, keep up with their class, or get ahead.
For children who are finding maths difficult, we start from exactly what they already know and build forward, closing gaps methodically so each new topic has solid ground beneath it. Our caring instructors adjust the pace and teaching approach to how each child learns best, celebrating every win, no matter how big or small.
Children who are ahead of their year group enjoy the same personalised approach focused on enrichment, which can introduce them to maths beyond the school curriculum, deepening their understanding and preparing them for private school entrance exams, maths competitions, or simply more demanding work.
Yes! Newton Mearns and the surrounding area is home to a number of well-regarded independent schools, including Glasgow Academy, Hutchesons Grammar School and The High School of Glasgow, each of which sets its own entrance assessment.
Mathnasium of Glasgow South supports children preparing for these exams, including ISEB-style testing where relevant, covering the numerical reasoning and problem-solving skills they assess.
Because entry points and requirements vary by school, we build each child's plan around their specific target school, starting early enough to close gaps and build confident, consistent performance.
Yes, Mathnasium of Glasgow South supports S4 and S5 pupils through their National 5 maths preparation with a personalised plan built around their current progress, target grade and the topics that need the most attention, covering number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics.
Yes! We support children from Nursery through the early stages of Primary school, building the number sense and numeracy skills that everything else in maths depends on.
At this stage, sessions focus on making maths hands-on and enjoyable, so children build confidence from the very start of their maths journey.
Tuition at Mathnasium of Glasgow South is priced as a flat monthly membership fee rather than a per-session rate, much like a gym membership. We recommend most children attend two to three sessions a week for optimal results.
Following the diagnostic assessment, we will recommend a session plan tailored to your child's learning needs and goals.
Enroling at Mathnasium of Glasgow South is easy!
The first step is to schedule a diagnostic assessment, which gives us an accurate picture of your child's maths rather than relying on assumptions. From there, we will build their personalised learning plan and talk you through exactly what we recommend in terms of learning plan and session frequency.
