PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie-Inspired Math Activities That Build Strong Math Foundations

Jul 14, 2026 | A+

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie arrives exclusively in theaters on August 14. Celebrate the release of PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie with five dinosaur rescue missions designed to help young learners build math confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop a deeper understanding of foundational math concepts.

Every great PAW Patrol adventure begins with a problem to solve. It might involve rescuing a stranded dinosaur, building a bridge over a rushing river, or teaming up to save the day.

While kids see thrilling adventures, parents notice something else: opportunities to build confidence in counting, measuring, sorting, recognizing patterns, and solving problems.

These five dinosaur-themed rescue missions encourage children to explore the why behind math as they count, compare, estimate and problem-solve through imaginative play. It's the same philosophy that guides every Mathnasium learning plan: providing tailored instruction that builds deep math comprehension and the lifelong problem-solving skills children need to succeed.

• Rescue Mission #1: Save the Baby Dinosaurs

A group of baby dinosaurs has wandered off. Hide toy dinosaurs around your house or backyard and challenge your child to rescue them before the volcano erupts.

As each dinosaur is found, ask questions like, "How many dinosaurs have you rescued?" "How many are still missing?" "Can you count them by twos?" "Which dinosaur is the biggest?" This simple activity helps kids develop counting skills, one-to-one correspondence, number sense, and the ability to compare quantities.

Rescue Mission #2: Follow the Dinosaur Tracks

Create a trail of dinosaur footprints using sidewalk chalk or paper cutouts that leads to a hidden lost dinosaur. Write a number, shape, color, or simple math question on each footprint and have your child solve each clue before moving on to the next one.

Along the way, they will improve number recognition, sequencing, shape identification, and their ability to follow directions.

Rescue Mission #3: Crack the Dino Code

The rescue team has received a secret message! Create a simple code where shapes, colors, or numbers unlock the next clue. For example, solve 3 + 2 to find the correct dinosaur, or identify the next shape in a pattern to continue the rescue mission. Children practice pattern recognition, number sense, logical reasoning, and problem-solving as they crack each clue.

• Rescue Mission #4: Sort the Dinosaur Eggs

Fill plastic eggs with small objects or gather colored pom-poms to create a basket of dinosaur eggs. Have your child sort them by color, size, pattern, or weight, then compare the groups by asking which has the most or the fewest. This activity builds skills in sorting, classifying, comparing, and organizing information.

• Rescue Mission #5: Volcano Countdown

Oh no! The volcano is about to erupt, and the dinosaurs need to get to safety. Set a countdown from 10 and challenge your child to complete simple math tasks before time runs out. They might solve an addition problem to unlock the next clue, count backward as they move dinosaurs to safety, or identify the next number in a sequence.

It's a fun way to reinforce number order, counting forward and backward, and early operations while adding excitement to the mission.
