Example 8 plus 6. 12 minus 9 without counting or using your fingers.
Think about this with your child - - if I showed them a 6 and a 4 - would they know that 2 and 4 make 6.
If I say what goes with 2 to make 10 - do they automatically know it's 8?
If I say - what's 15 minus 8 - do they instinctively say 7.
That's where your child needs to be coming out of 2nd grade.
