Q: How do you know what kind of math students in your center/re need to be taught?
A: We have a comprehensive and thorough assessment that identifies where a student's math foundation is, to understand what they already know and where they might need help. Then, we review the results with parents and show them what their child's custom learning plan would be, the areas of focus, and how it will help.
Q: Why do students need to take tests?
A: Tests will identify the student's understanding, their strengths and weaknesses. One of our students, Melanie, was having difficulty in Pre-Algebra and after taking the assessment, test we learned that her understanding of fractions and decimals were weak. After working with her 3x a week, her confidence grew and her grades improved from a D+ to a B+ in half a school year. I can't wait to see how she does this coming school year!
Q: Can Mathnasium help students prepare for their tests in math class?
A: Absolutely! We regularly help students with classwork/homework and their test preparation. It is important for us to have a balance, help with catching up but also help with what they are working on today. One of the students, Sarah, is in an advanced and accelerated math program, and we have supported her to keep up with the pace of the schoolwork, as well as, her tests.
Q: What about College Placement Tests?
A: Mathnasium regularly works with students preparing for either the SAT's or ACT's. Our program is designed specifically for the college placements to get them prepared. We can help them get ready, along with their schoolwork, to keep them up to date!
