Pi Day Explained: Why We’re Hosting a Pi Day Maths Party, and you're warmly invited!

On the 14th of March 14, people around the world take a moment to celebrate a truly special number.
The digits 3.14 (14th of March reversed) are the start of π (pi), a number you’ll find in every circle. This year, we’re inviting everyone to join our Pi Day maths party, created just for you!

What Makes Pi So Interesting?
Simply put, pi is the ratio of a circle’s circumference (the distance around) to its diameter (the distance across). This relationship is true for every circle, big or small.
Pi itself goes on forever without repeating. In fact, a computer scientist has calculated it to more than 13.3 trillion decimal places!

Pi in Everyday Life
While pi starts in geometry, its uses go far beyond our maths centre.
• 🏗 Designing buildings, bridges and stadiums
• 🚗 Engineering wheels, engines and moving parts
• 🌍 Calculating the paths of GPS satellites orbiting Earth
• 📡 Developing the technology behind phones and communications
• 🥧 Even baking the perfect pie

Pi plays a big part in both our modern world and even in our favourite foods! As STEM fields grow quickly, it’s more important than ever to help children feel confident and comfortable with maths.
