At Mathnasium of Sheen, we use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach designed to help children of all skill levels build maths mastery.
We do this by combining personalised learning plans with proven teaching techniques, so children can develop solid maths foundations that allow them to truly understand new concepts rather than memorise their way through them.
Our specially trained instructors use a variety of proven mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written teaching techniques to teach in the way that works best for each child.
We work with students from Reception through to GCSE at our centre on Sheen Lane, or online via Mathnasium@home, in a supportive and fun learning environment where each child receives face-to-face maths support guided by their own personalised learning plan.
Every child at Mathnasium of Sheen begins their Mathnasium journey with a diagnostic assessment which pinpoints what they already know, where the knowledge gaps are and how they approach maths.
From there, we create their personalised learning plan to close those gaps in the right order so each new topic sits on solid ground rather than papering over what came before.

Fiona MacKenzie
Centre Director
Fiona is one of the Centre Directors at Mathnasium of Sheen and has been part of the Mathnasium family since 2019. With a deep appreciation for the transformative power of education, Fiona has fallen in love with everything Mathnasium represents—particularly the way it builds confidence and fosters a lifelong love of maths in children.
Before joining Mathnasium, Fiona had a diverse and dynamic career. She earned an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh, followed by an exciting chapter in the Performing Arts, where she worked as a lead vocalist with several theatre companies at sea. Fiona later pursued a Master's degree in Psychology and Mental Health at King’s College London, bringing a unique blend of academic expertise and creative energy to her work with students.
While completing her studies, Fiona began working as an instructor at a nearby Mathnasium centre. She quickly progressed to Centre Director, a role in which she discovered her true passion—helping children grow in confidence and skill through maths. Over the past five years, she has seen firsthand the positive impact Mathnasium has on young learners and is thrilled to bring that same energy and enthusiasm to the children of Richmond.
Outside the centre, Fiona enjoys staying active, attending the theatre, and spending time with her beloved sausage dog, Rocco.

to be part of a team that helps students build confidence and a love for maths. He has a PGCE
from Oxford Brookes University and a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of
Nottingham. With his experience teaching everything from Key Stage 1 to A-level, he is passionate
about helping students become resilient, critical thinkers who feel confident
tackling challenges inside and outside the classroom. He loves making maths fun and relatable by
breaking down complex ideas into simple, real-world examples.
Outside of Mathnasium, he is passionate about environmental causes and enjoys staying active in
his local community. In his free time, you’ll find him bouldering, running, or getting creative with
art. He’s looking forward to meeting the students and families in Sheen and making maths a fun
and rewarding experience for everyone!

We work with children from Reception through to GCSE, ages 4 to 16, across all Key Stages from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to KS4.
Sheen families come to us at a range of different stages and with different goals, some preparing early for London's competitive entrance exams, others building foundations or heading towards GCSEs. Whatever your child's maths goal, we have a programme to fit.
Our instructors support children across the full primary and secondary maths curriculum, from number, fractions, decimals and percentages through to algebra, ratio, geometry and statistics, at every level from KS1 through to KS4.
Because each child follows their own personalised learning plan, a Year 2 child preparing for the 7+ and a Year 11 child revising for GCSE will each get exactly the focus they need.
A private tutor's session often depends on whatever the child brings along that day, a worksheet, a homework question or an upcoming test.
Mathnasium of Sheen focuses on (re)building maths foundations and expanding the students' mathematical thinking, as we support their classroom progress.
The student's Mathnasium experience begins with a diagnostic assessment, so their learning can follow a personalised plan shaped around their own knowledge gaps and goals.
Sessions take place in a supportive and fun learning environment, where children receive face-to-face maths support and build confidence to serve them in the classroom and beyond.
At Mathnasium of Sheen, we don't follow a traditional curriculum. We use the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach designed to help children build maths mastery, whatever their starting point.
Our instructors combine mental, verbal, visual, tactile and written techniques with personalised, assessment-based learning plans, teaching each child in the way that works best for them. Sessions can complement what children are covering in school under the National Curriculum, while steadily closing any knowledge gaps that have built up along the way.
Mathnasium of Sheen works with children of every skill level, whether they're catching up, keeping up with their year group or ready to get ahead.
For children who struggle with maths, the personalised learning plan ensures we start from exactly where they are and build forward at a pace that suits them, closing knowledge gaps in a clear, logical order.
Children who are ahead of their year group get the same personalised approach, focused on enrichment that introduces them to maths beyond the school curriculum, whether that's entrance exam preparation, competitions or simply more demanding work.
Yes! Mathnasium of Sheen supports children preparing for the 7+, 10+, 11+ and 13+, including ISEB Common Pre-Test and Common Entrance style assessments, focusing on the numerical reasoning and problem-solving skills these exams test.
As entry points, timelines and content vary from school to school, we build every child's plan around their specific target school, leaving enough time to close any gaps before assessment day.
Yes, our instructors support Year 10 and Year 11 children through their GCSE maths preparation with a personalised plan built around their current performance, target grade and the topics where they most need to improve.
We cover the full GCSE maths curriculum, including number, algebra, geometry, ratio, probability and statistics, across both Foundation and Higher tiers.
Each child completes a diagnostic assessment that pinpoints their strengths, knowledge gaps, learning style and individual goals. We use this information to build the learning plan that will put them on the best path to maths mastery.
Tuition at Mathnasium of Sheen is priced as a flat monthly membership fee rather than a per-session rate, much like a gym membership. Most children see the best results attending two to three sessions a week.
Following the diagnostic assessment, we will recommend a session plan tailored to your child's learning needs and goals.
Get in touch through the Contact Us button on this page or by emailing [email protected] to arrange a free diagnostic assessment.
After the assessment, we'll walk you through the results and the personalised learning plan we've put together for your child, answering any questions before sessions begin.
Assessment is commitment-free.
