• What does "flexible attendance" mean?

  Simply put, it means that your schedule is always in your control.  No appointments.  No such thing as a late arrival.  Early pick-up is easily accommocated.  Something came up or changed at the last minute, please don't worry about it.  

• How does Mathnasium differ from other learning centers?

  In addition to flexible attendance, Mathnasium uses a customized approach that is tailored to each student's individual needs.  Students work under the supervision of our enthusiastic Instructors who are trained to develop lasting conceptual understanding.  Every session is a fun and productive learning experience.  

• What can Mathnasium do that a tutor won't do?

  We're concerned about more than just homework.  Our proprietary assessments and customized learning plans allow us to meet each student exactly where they're at.  These assessments will identify exactly where the concepts a student knows and understand well starts to diverge into the things they're less confident about.  That becomes our starting point.  We continue to reassess and redevelop each student's learning plan working up to, into, or even beyond grade level where appropriate. 

• What will Mathnasium do that a tutor CAN do?

  Help with homework, of course!  When a student arrives, one of the first things they are asked is, "Did you bring any homework with you today that you need to finish or have questions about?"  When the answer is "yes," then we save time at the end of the session to iron these out.  If they're reviewing for a test, we've been known to even set the Mathnasium learning plan aside for the day and just focus on the test review.

• What does student engagement and motivation look like at Mathnasium?

  It starts with the assessment (see above), so we can confidently instruct knowing we're on solid ground with a student's prerequisite skills and foundations. Manipulatives, warm-up activities, games, and the curriculum itself all engage students in visual, verbal, and tactile ways.  There's also a lot of fun and reward and incentive built into our program.  Here in Carmel, our reward system is very robust and designed to appeal to all levels and ages of learners and to a variety of motivations.  Our Instructors are supportive, encouraging, and friendly.  They set daily goals with students and share their celebrations and excitement.  You can see the enthusiasm our students have for the people and the program at Mathnasium of Carmel just by observing them as they enter and exit the front door!

• How does Mathnasium of Carmel stand-out?

  First and foremost, the Mathnasium brand stands out globally by teaching math to kids in a fun way that actually makes sense and develops conceptual understanding.  Each student's learning plan is customized to meet them exactly where they're at and to proceed at a pace that is appropriate for them.  Our center in Carmel further stands out for many other reasons:

  1) longevity, expertise, and caring of the dedicated staff

  2) flexible attendance - just drop-in on your schedule; no appointments are ever necessary

  3) nobody here is counting your sessions, just guarding against the extremes - we recommend 2-3 sessions each week to maximize progress

• Will Mathnasium work with my student's school/teacher?

  Mathnasuim works best when we can establish communication and partnerships with teachers.  There IS more than one way to do any math problem, and the way that makes sense to THAT student is the way we want them to carry with them.  Having an understanding of what's going on at school helps us to make connections between relevant foundations we're working on in their learning plan and alternative representations that students often see at school.

• How will Mathnasium serve my student over the summer?

  Summer is a great time to be at Mathnasium!  It's all Mathnasium all of the time without the distractoins of schoolwork.  We even offer intensive summer programs that encourage daily attendance to target catching up, standardized testing, or other goals. 

• Can I make-up sessions or place a hold on my membership?

  At Mathnasium of Carmel, we don't want you to have to worry about being on time or missing a day.  We are committed to keeping your schedule in your control.  We're not counting your sessions, just guarding against extremes.  No appointment is ever necessary. We don't even use our appointment software for enrolled students.  Please just drop-in anytime and frequently enough to help us make respectable progress with rest periods in between.

  Mathnasium of Carmel also does not require long-term contracts.  The membership is set-up on a month-to-month basis, so you can terminate your membership at the end of any calendar month after the first full month of membership.  Since we offer flexible attendance, it's easy to just make-up sessions you may have been unable to attend during a busy week or vacation.  No problem!  We do have a special discounted prepaid option that allows you to place a hold on your membership in advance of any foreseeable longer-term absences.  Please see the Center Director for details.
