Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Tommy Lunn

Assistant Center Director

Tommy is a graduate of the London School of Economics and UCLA. Tommy has always loved math and problem solving - he is never not asking questions! At Mathnasium, Tommy is driven by seeing students grow, demonstrate their curiosity, and enjoy math. Outside of Mathnasium, Tommy enjoys exploring Chicago and all it has to offer, especially its food, architecture, transportation, and urban design.

Ying R.

Ying is a Chicago native who loves exploring the city, whether on foot or roller skates along the Riverwalk. Her favorite sweet stop is La Michoacana, but what she enjoys most is helping students grow in confidence. Having once struggled with math herself, she finds it meaningful to show others that math can be a subject to enjoy rather than fear.

Patient and encouraging, Ying is dedicated to making learning a positive experience. She believes every student can succeed in math and takes pride in guiding them toward that “I can do this!” moment that makes all the difference.

Alexandra F.

Alexandra is studying math at UIC. She likes math since it's the kind of thing you can do drinking hot tea with your cats sleeping next to you.

David G.

David earned his degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics from DePaul University, where he also minored in Computer Science and Physics. He enjoys helping students connect new ideas to concepts they already know, making math feel approachable and meaningful. His favorite subjects are number theory and combinatorics, which inspire curiosity and creative problem-solving in his teaching.

Outside of Mathnasium, David enjoys chess, puzzles, sailing, climbing, and longboarding. He encourages students to treat math like any challenge—by thinking critically, exploring strategies, and building confidence step by step.

Jeremy B.

Jeremy is a Chicago native and a recent graduate of UIC with a Bachelor's in Math and Computer Science. He's always had a knack for mathematics, and he's passionate about helping others ignite their interest in the discipline. When he's not crunching numbers, he likes to explore around the city on train and work on coding projects with friends.

Shang A.

Shang grew up in Virginia with a passion for math, a subject they gravitated toward early on. They earned a BS in Computer and Electrical Engineering from NC A&T and are now pursuing a master’s degree in Computer Science at DePaul University. Gabe loves to learn and is also interested in economics, sustainability, and fitness.

Greg W.

Greg is a former high school math teacher and has been an instructor at several other Mathnasium locations, including in North Carolina and Florida. He has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Davidson College and a master’s degree in data analytics from Johns Hopkins University. He enjoys working with students and helping them feel more confident with math. Above all, he hopes he can make math fun for students, at least while they are in the center.

Hamlet T.

Hamlet has a degree in physics and a minor in mathematics from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He enjoys tutoring and is always looking for ways to help students learn. He believes that one of the best ways to contribute is to ensure students have the resources they need to become successful.

Michelangelo P.

Michelangelo is an NYC native now in Chicago before medical school. He earned his degree in data science from the University of Chicago and now works as a clinical researcher in orthopedic trauma. Being an older brother made him want to tutor in his spare time and drew him to Mathansium to help students in the local Chicago community! Outside the classroom, he plays basketball, spends time with his cat, and solves New York Times Crossword puzzles for fun.

Angel R.

Angel is a graduate of DePaul University with a bachelor's degree in Game Design. Math was his favorite subject in school, and it has evolved quickly into a love for coding. After tutoring in a summer camp, his passion for teaching was solidified and he's excited to apply those skills at Mathnasium.

Bryce A.

Bryce is a graduate of Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, and is a current PhD student in chemical engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago. Coming from an engineering background, they have a strong penchant for math and love problem-solving. Bryce also loves teaching, and takes pride in educating the next generation of students. For Bryce, nothing beats the moment when a student finally understands a concept they were having trouble with before. Outside of Mathnasium, they enjoy reading, trying new foods, taking walks around the city and along the lake, and spending time with their two cats Charlie and Gus.

Ethan H.

Ethan is a student at Whitney Young Magnet High School. He found his passion for teaching through tutoring his cousins in math and founded a tutoring club at his school! He loves helping others see connections in math that can be applied to real life and how it builds upon itself as students progress in their math journey. During his free time, Ethan enjoys playing sports like tennis, playing video games with friends, and learning how to solve Rubik's cubes.
