Prof. Dinshaw S. Balsara, PhD

Co-owner

Dinshaw is a Professor of Physics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame, with extensive experience teaching math and physics to students of all ages. With over 100 published research papers and multiple international awards, he brings a deep understanding of mathematics to Mathnasium. 

He firmly believes that the Mathnasium Method is the most effective way to help students truly understand math. 

Doug Gorter

Lead Instructor

Doug holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from Dordt University and a Master’s degree from Central Washington University. With over 20 years of experience teaching high school math, he currently teaches at Illiana Christian High School and serves as an adjunct instructor at Indiana University Northwest. 

In his free time, Doug enjoys reading, hiking, camping, and spending time with his wife and children. 

Kimberly Julian

Lead Instructor

Kimberly earned her Bachelor of Science from Hyles-Anderson College and has over five years of experience teaching high school and middle school math. She is fluent in Spanish and loves helping students grow in confidence and curiosity through math. 

Outside of Mathnasium, Kimberly enjoys hiking, exploring nature, and finding new coffee shops. 

Stacy Young

Instructor

Stacy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s in Elementary Education from the University of Chicago. With over 10 years of teaching experience, she has spent the last five focusing exclusively on middle school math for students with diverse learning needs. 

She enjoys soccer and proudly supports her favorite club, Paris Saint-Germain. 

Tracy Moyers

Instructor
Education: Tracy has been a math teacher for middle school for 33 years with the Hammond school district. She loves to see her students get excited about math, and is very passionate about her students education. She has also been the coach for the middle school basketball team. Fun Fact: In her spare time Tracy enjoys hiking, playing games, watching sports, and once in a while, experience something adventurous like skydiving.

Ian Foreman

Assistant Center Director

Degree: Ian holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University. He also obtained minors in philosophy and applied mathematics. Hobbies: Ian is an avid musician; he loves to play guitar, drums, and keyboard. When he's not making music, he's often enjoying a game of chess, running, or playing tennis. Fun fact: While in college, Ian participated in several performances with his university's street dancing club!

Ken Kantor

Instructor
Ken earned a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin. Throughout his professional career, he applied engineering concepts and provided cybersecurity solutions to protect critical infrastructures. Once he retired, Ken worked at another Mathnasium Center in Illinois. His goal is to help kids be successful with science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Ken has written one book, and is in the process of writing another one. He and his wife love spending time with their grandkids, and spending time outdoors on walking trails.

Delna Balsara

Assistant Center Director

SCHOOL: Graduated from University of Notre Dame, IN with a BE in computer science engineering and a BA in industrial design. HOBBIES: Delna loves to play the piano, especially classical pieces and Rachmaninoff is her favorite! She has won gold medals at the ISSMA competition at the State level. She also likes to take her dog, Cuddles, for walks and pamper him. Delna loves to travel and try cuisines from different parts of the world! FUN FACT: Delna enjoys learning physics and math. She has obtained a PERFECT SCORE OF 800 on her SAT math advanced test. She was an integral part of Girls Who Code at Penn High School.

Diya Patel

Instructor
Diya is a junior at Munster High School. She is a certified research assistant intern at the University of Chicago Medicine where she aims at improving the quality of care for patients hospitalized. She is also an international qualifier and vice president of leadership for DECA. Additionally, she is a co-founder of a policy and advocacy team for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Diya admires the concept of Mathnasium, and firmly believes that educating others is a form of learning in and of itself. Fun Fact: During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling and dancing to contemporary Bollywood and Indian Classical Music.

Eleanora Pitcher
