Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Holly Ellis

Center Director

Holly is the Center Director at Mathnasium of East Vancouver. Passionate about mathematics, statistics, and education, Holly began their journey with Mathnasium as an Instructor in Lakeland Highlands, where they saw firsthand how the Mathnasium Method can transform students’ confidence and understanding.

When Holly returned to Vancouver, they continued their mission of inspiring students through math education. Holly enjoys creating a welcoming learning space where every student can succeed. Outside of work, they love painting, listening to music, and collecting stickers.

Paige Howell

Assistant Center Director

Paige is a senior in high school and will attend Washington State University in the fall to study Computer Science. She loves math and finds joy in helping others build confidence and discover their potential through learning.

At Mathnasium, Paige encourages students to see math as an exciting challenge rather than a chore. Her warmth and patience help students thrive at their own pace. When she’s not teaching, Paige enjoys reading, journaling, hanging out with her sister, and relaxing with a cup of chai.

Jack Dryden

Lead Instructor

Jack is a senior at Washougal High School with a strong interest in physics and problem-solving. Math has always been his favorite subject, and he plans to pursue an Applied Physics degree at Wheaton College to become a Photonics Engineer.

Jack brings curiosity, focus, and enthusiasm to every lesson, helping students approach math with confidence and creativity. Outside of Mathnasium, he enjoys hiking, backpacking, playing music, and reading fiction. He believes that math, much like nature, is full of patterns waiting to be discovered.

Mari Miranda-Marion

Lead Instructor

Mari is a junior at Mountain View High School who has a passion for teaching and helping others succeed. She first joined Mathnasium as a student, where she experienced firsthand how much the Mathnasium Method can improve understanding and confidence.

After developing her own skills, Mari returned as an instructor and now serves as a Lead Instructor. Outside of Mathnasium, she volunteers at her local animal shelter and is currently training to earn her black belt in karate.

Caleb Armstrong

Lead Instructor

Ben Schmiedicke

Seasonal Lead Instructor

Ben grew up in San Diego County, California, and earned his math degree and teaching credential from CSU Northridge in Los Angeles. He advocates for personalized education, targeting specific areas that need the most attention rather than using a broad approach. Ben enjoys the challenge of solving Sudokus and has a beloved cat named Wemby. Be careful—he loves sharing cat pictures, so don't bring her up at Mathnasium!

Ellie Dryden

Seasonal Instructor

Ellie Dryden has just completed her freshman year at Wheaton College, pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Physics. She loves all things math and science, and helping other kids love math as much as she does! Outside of work and school, she enjoys spending time with family, her dog and goats, and being outside.

Jacob Lee

Seasonal Instructor

Jacob has just completed his freshman year at University of Washington. He has worked at Mathnasium of East Vancouver since November 2022. Besides math, Jacob likes to play sports like tennis and basketball and hang out with friends.

Orrin Brown

Instructor

Orrin is a Senior at Camas High School, and started working at Mathnasium in August 2023. He experienced the Mathnasium method firsthand as a student at the East Vancouver location and went on to become a tutor helping build strong math skills as well as strong student-teacher relationships. In his free time, Orrin likes rock climbing, playing guitar, hiking/backpacking, and singing.

Sean Lee

Instructor

Sean Lee graduated from University of Washington in 2023 with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics.

Gian Loja

Akhila Pattamatta

Grant Wagner

Instructor

Grant began teaching in 1984 in Chicago, Illinois, as a volunteer tutor in a small alternative school for students struggling to succeed in large public schools. After teaching both math and English, mainly to high school special education students in Illinois, Virginia, and Washington State, Grant retired in October of 2024. Since then, he has worked as a substitute teacher in the Evergreen School District and has especially enjoyed joining the Mathnasium teaching team!

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.
