Shaz graduated with a degree in Applied Mathematics and has a strong passion for problem-solving and a growing interest in statistical research. He enjoys taking complex problems, breaking them down into smaller, intuitive ideas, and finding clear and logical solutions. His long-term goal is to pursue research in the field of statistics and explore how mathematical and statistical methods can be applied to better understand and solve real-world problems.
Shaz strives to create an encouraging and thoughtful learning environment where students feel comfortable engaging with challenging material. Other than work, he enjoys listening to music, reading books, and watching movies, which allow him to relax, explore new perspectives, and stay creatively inspired.
Hi, my name is Raga. I am currently a senior at Taft Charter High School. I've been teaching at Mathnasium for about a year. My favorite part about being an instructor here at Mathnasium is being able to help kids feel more confident in math concepts they are struggling with, and helping them get 100s on all their math tests. Outside of Mathnasium, some of my hobbies include reading, painting, and baking new recipes.
Hi! My name is Hanishka, and I’m a senior at Taft Charter High School. I’ve always enjoyed working with others and helping students feel more confident in their learning. I’m especially passionate about math and business, and I plan to study finance and business management in college. Outside of school and Mathnasium, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and going to the beach. I’m excited to be part of the Mathnasium team and look forward to helping students reach their goals and discover that math can be fun!
I have a bachelor's degree in statistics and plan to pursue data science as a career. I enjoy making math approachable, engaging, and confidence-building by adapting lessons to each student’s learning style. I’m committed to creating a welcoming environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and capable of succeeding in math. I like to play chess in my free time.
Assael is currently majoring in Electrical Engineering at California State University Northridge. "I love working at Mathnasium because seeing students genuinely progress in learning mathematics brings me great fulfillment." In his free time he loves reading about science, mathematics, and playing soccer and basketball, and plays some Rocket League and Elden Ring on the side!
Hey, my name is Eden Litman! I work at the Encino Mathnasium location and am currently a Senior student at Taft High School. I enjoy hanging out with friends, learning about math, working out, and going on hikes.
Josh has a bachelor's and a master's in math from CSUN. When he is not helping kids with Math, in his spare time, he enjoys reading all kinds of books from various genres.
Hi! I’m Ryan, and I’ve always enjoyed math because I like the challenge of working through a problem and figuring out why an answer makes sense. I also enjoy helping other students feel more confident with math, especially when a topic seems confusing at first. I try to explain things in a simple, patient way and make learning feel less stressful and more approachable.
Sharry is a friendly tutor who graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a minor in Statistics. She enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, and is passionate about helping students develop a strong understanding of math. Through her experience as a peer tutor in college, she adapts her approach to fit student needs. Her end goal is to make learning math enjoyable while helping students build confidence, strengthen their skills, and become more independent problem-solvers.
Brian Hood is a Regional Director at Mathnasium and has a passion for helping young minds excel on their academic journeys. A native Virginian, Brian ventured to Singapore after graduating from university to pursue a Masters Degree in Dramatic Writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. While there, he also discovered a joy for teaching while working with local students to improve their English and Creative Writing skills. After graduating, Brian moved to Los Angeles where he worked extensively in the educational field, including extended time as a private tutor, program coordinator, and Center Director of a prominent educational center. Brian is an extremely enthusiastic, optimistic, and driven individual who delights in seeing students learn and grow academically and strives to make their learning as fun and engaging as possible. In his spare time, he loves eating the most delicious food LA has to offer, collecting retro videogames, and exploring museums.
Dan graduated from the University of Arizona in 1985 with a B.S. in Microbiology and from Hofstra University's Graduate School of Business in 1990 with an MBA in Accounting. He worked as a CPA with public accounting firm Price Waterhouse and has built successful companies in various fields including real estate and executive recruiting. Dan's passion for teaching and love for working with kids is rooted in family tradition. His mother was a highly regarded principal in Las Vegas for nearly 30 years. Dan has taught and tutored children of all ages and was a mentor for underprivileged children. Dan is committed to significantly increasing Encino children's math skills, their understanding of math concepts and their overall school performance. "We provide lots of warm encouragement in a very positive learning environment so that children build their confidence and develop a winning attitude towards math. Our kids learn math in a way that makes sense to them. They get excited about math and this spirit carries over into everything they do."
Laurie graduated from UCLA in 1986 with a B.A. in Communication Studies. Before joining Mathnasium, she built a successful career working with Fortune 500 high-tech companies, including IBM, SAP, EMC, TIBCO, and MicroStrategy.
Laurie’s passion for teaching and working with children is deeply rooted in her family values. Her father, a dedicated special education teacher, spent over 30 years shaping young minds in California. Following in his footsteps, Laurie is committed to empowering children in the Las Vegas community by improving their math skills, fostering a strong understanding of mathematical concepts, and building their confidence to succeed academically.
In addition to her work at Mathnasium, Laurie volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), where she advocates for the best interests of children in foster care. This role reflects her dedication to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and supporting their growth and well-being.
