Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Malkaan Mehdi

Senior Instructor

Malkaan is currently studying Computer Science and Astrophysics at NC State University. She has completed advanced courses including Calculus I–III, AP Statistics, Physics, and Linear Algebra. Her goal at Mathnasium is to inspire excitement for math in every student and help them feel confident in their abilities.

Her favorite part of teaching is hearing a student say, “I know how to do this!” Outside of Mathnasium, Malkaan enjoys reading a variety of books and relaxing with her favorite romantic comedies.

Joseph Pottern

Instructor

Joseph is a graduate of NC State University with a degree in Applied Mathematics. His studies have included Calculus, Differential Equations (including partial DEs), Linear Algebra, and a focus on probability in preparation for actuarial science. Homeschooled from an early age, he developed a love for math and began explaining college-level math concepts just for fun.

At Mathnasium, Joseph enjoys seeing students solve problems on their own using prior knowledge. In his free time, he likes playing video games, exploring philosophy, and running.

Carson Simmons

Lead Instructor/ACD

Carson is currently attending NC State and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He has taken Calculus II and III at NCSU and is currently on the way to finishing his degree. Before moving to Raleigh Carson tutored students at Surry Community College in higher level mathematics and chemistry, it was here that he found enjoyment in helping students succeed. Carson also enjoys live music and reading.

Aryan Khan

Senior Instructor

Aryan is currently a student at NC State pursuing a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. Aryan has taken Calculus I, II, and III and plans on taking Statistics soon. He enjoys being able to see students through their math journey from when they first start to the point where they can fly through it all by themselves. In his free time, Aryan enjoys photography, video games, and tinkering with his car.

Cooper Schardt

Instructor

Cooper is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at NC State University. He has taken Pre-Calc, Calculus I-III, Differential Equations, and has taken a variety of chemistry and science courses. He enjoys visualizing math concepts for students as well as making math as stress-free as possible. His favorite part about teaching math is when students understand how math concepts can be applied to real-world activities. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, going on nature walks, and playing for the Club Paintball Team at NC State.

Anthony Ladd

Instructor

Anthony is currently a Senior at Leesville Road High School and is taking classes at NCSU, working towards a degree in Electrical
Engineering. He has completed Math 1-3, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus1-3. Anthony most appreciates the moments that a student "clicks" with a new concept. In his free time, he likes to play games or study.

Zane Luglan

Instructor

Zane is currently a student at NC State, pursuing a career in Nuclear Engineering. He has completed courses in Calculus I-III, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Physics. Zane loves it when a student finally understands a problem, and you can see the excitement on their face, and he wants students to learn to love math, too. In his free time, he enjoys writing music, photography, and reading.

Zara Ahmed

Instructor

Zara is currently a student at Enloe Magnet High School, and is hoping to pursue a career in chemical engineering. She has completed studies in Calculus I and II, and is currently duel enrolled in Calculus III at NCSU.

At Mathnasium, she has found delight in seeing students gain proficiency in skills, and enjoy doing math that they didn’t before. In her free time, she loves to read, dance, and play the piano.
