Andrew is the Owner and Center Director at Mathnasium of Northwest Seattle. He holds an MBA from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business and a BA in Communications from Calvin College. He previously worked in digital marketing and analytics in the financial services industry.
Having struggled with math, Andrew is passionate about helping children catch up, keep up, and get ahead by teaching math in a way that makes sense. He enjoys bringing the Mathnasium Method to the community and spending time with his wife, Julie, and their two daughters.
Julie is Co-Owner of Mathnasium of Northwest Seattle. She earned an MBA from the University of Washington Foster School of Business and a BA in International Affairs from Lewis & Clark College, with professional experience in global health, consulting, telecommunications, education, and public policy.
Committed to helping students build strong math foundations, Julie is dedicated to fostering confidence through personalized instruction. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Terrewode Women’s Fund, supporting maternal health in Uganda. In her free time, Julie enjoys community service and family activities with her two daughters in Seattle.
Calvin is a graduate of Gonzaga University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Communication Studies and plans to pursue Environmental Science in graduate school. Math has been one of his favorite subjects since childhood, especially problem solving and logical reasoning.
Calvin enjoys helping students discover patterns and strategies that make math feel approachable and engaging. Known for his enthusiasm and creativity, he often incorporates puzzles and “magic” math problems into instruction. Outside of teaching, Calvin enjoys academic challenges, exploring new ideas, and finding fun ways to make learning meaningful.
Alex is the Instructor Lead at Mathnasium of Northwest Seattle and has more than a decade of experience tutoring math and science. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Wisconsin and has been passionate about mathematics since an early age.
Alex finds great fulfillment in helping students unlock their potential and develop confidence in problem solving. He enjoys connecting math concepts to real-world interests and encouraging curiosity in every learner. Outside of Mathnasium, Alex spends time hiking, rock climbing, solving puzzles, and exploring Seattle’s outdoor spaces.
Ava is a high school senior with a passion for working with kids and helping them thrive academically. With experience as a summer camp counselor and childcare provider, she brings patience, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of responsibility to every student. Ava loves making math approachable and fun, and she’s especially excited to help students build confidence as they master new concepts. Outside of tutoring, Ava enjoys taking dance classes, listening to music, and spending time outdoors.
Lila is a senior at Lincoln High School. As a graduate of Mathnasium of Northwest Seattle herself, she firmly believes in the curriculum and hopes to pass her love of math on to others. In addition to math, Lila loves chemistry and problem solving and hopes to pursue a career in a science or engineering field. Lila has worked with kids as a camp counselor and dance teacher in addition to being a math instructor. Outside of work, Lila loves to take dance classes, go thrifting, and eat great food.
Adela has a longstanding passion for education. She has been a tutor at Team Read where she coached elementary school students who were behind in reading. Subsequently, she was a camp counselor at Girls Rock Math where she tutored elementary and middle school students in math. She has been tutoring at Mathnasium since February 2025. She is currently a senior at Lincoln High School. She enjoys both quantitative subjects such as math and physics as well as piano and art. Adela likes to spend a lot of her free time drawing and playing the piano.
Bea is a senior at Seattle Preparatory School with a passion for helping students succeed academically. She has worked with kids through babysitting, volunteer tutoring, and helping run her school’s peer tutoring program. Bea especially enjoys math and biology and loves making challenging concepts feel more approachable for students. She plans to study health science or public health in college. In her free time, Bea enjoys being outside, spending time with friends, shopping, and playing with her dogs.
Kevin is a college graduate currently studying for a master's degree to teach elementary school. He has a love for teaching and making an impact on his students’ lives. He has experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages in the US and Taiwan in a variety of different subjects. He loves to make his teaching fun and engaging for all students to bring that spark of learning for them all. Outside of work, Kevin loves playing board games, reading books and watching movies and TV shows.
Kyle is a graduate of UMass Amherst where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics. After spending a year abroad in Japan teaching English, he moved to Seattle to share his passion for math education and to explore the beauty of the PNW. Kyle believes in fostering a genuine curiosity about the deep mysteries and subtle beauty of math among his students, encouraging them to explore their own questions and find joy in their discoveries. Outside of his work with students, Kyle enjoys hiking, listening to music, playing games, and taking walks around the Ballard neighborhood.
Ruby is a first-year student at the University of Washington studying Environmental Science, and has a passion for helping kids succeed in math. Having previously worked as an independent math tutor, Ruby loves making difficult concepts seem more approachable and encouraging kids to find excitement in learning math. She has also worked with kids as a babysitter and a counselor at Girls Rock Math for many years. In addition to math, Ruby enjoys exploring science as well as the arts through theater and music. Outside of work, Ruby enjoys spending time outdoors, socializing with friends and family, cooking, and watching TV and movies.
