I am Danny Ostrowski, the Center Director at the Mathnasium of Palatine. I have always found math to be interesting because it is a human-made language used to help understand the workings of our universe and it has been essential to helping human kind advance as far as it has. Math can connect us to one another despite being from different countries, continents, or planets! I have enjoyed instructing at Mathnasium for the past 10 years because we get the opportunity to really connect with our students while we show them new topics and techniques. Fresh ideas from students of all ages have even opened my eyes to new ways of thinking of math problems! My favorite number is 3. 3 has been my lucky number as long as I could remember and I keep learning cool facts about it. The most sturdy chair/stool will have 3 legs. Most colors humans can see can be made from a combination of the three primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. We live in a 3-dimensional world. Everybody knows that the third time is a charm!
Hi I’m Krish! I love math because it challenges me to think logically and creatively at the same time. I enjoy how math connects ideas in unexpected ways and shows how reasoning can explain a lot about the world around us. I enjoy teaching at Mathnasium because I love seeing students truly understand math as a whole rather than just memorization. My favorite number is phi (φ) because although it is an irrational number, it represents the golden ratio that is found in nature, art, and more, representing proportion. A fun fact about myself is that I have performed at the Chicago Symphony Center as well as the Ravinia Music Festival. If I’m not doing math, you can find me playing along to songs on my drum set or playing basketball with friends!
Hi, my name is Sam and I go to Palatine High School. I enjoy math as it feels amazing to get difficult problems right and understand topics conceptually! I really like instructing at Mathnasium because it reminds me of when I help my friends with math, which is always a fun time. My favorite number is 31 because I share that number on my volleyball jersey with my little sister who plays soccer. A fun fact about myself is that I can do a front flip, a back flip or a gainer off a diving board! If I’m not teaching math, then you’ll find me playing volleyball or one of my two instruments.
Hi, I am Amira Salamah. I love math because it can help us make sense of the world around us. I like instructing math because it allows me to help students make sense of complex concepts and make learning more enjoyable. My favorite number is 0 because it isn’t worth anything, but is still one of the most important numbers in math. A fun fact about me is that my favorite flowers are sunflowers. If I wasn’t teaching or doing math I would probably be baking, because it helps me relax.
