Anna loves the moment a concept clicks. She helps students build the study skills and confidence to keep that going, and she brings a warmth that shows kids math is useful in real life.
A Sterling native, Anna raised her three kids right here. All three are alumni of River Bend Middle School and Potomac Falls High School. Before Mathnasium, she used math every day to keep a major defense firm's budgets on track. With a Business Finance degree from the University of Maryland, she built a career as a financial analyst, handling budget planning, execution, and reporting where the numbers had to add up. After stepping away to raise her family, Anna came back to her passion for teaching.
Katy is proof that math shows up everywhere, even in an art studio. With a background in both science and art, she explains complicated ideas simply and helps students see how math and logic skills pay off well beyond STEM careers.
At Loudoun County's Academy of Science, Katy researched how evolutionary biology shapes mating behavior in parasitic wasps. She later graduated from VCUarts with a degree in Communication Arts, majoring in comics and illustration. Her artwork has appeared in several curated exhibitions, and her comics have been published in award-winning student comic anthologies.
Abby's favorite part of tutoring is the conversation. Mathnasium's comfortable, supportive setting gives her room to go deeper with students than a quick homework check allows, so kids understand why the math works, not just how.
Abby graduated with honors from the University of Mary Washington in spring 2025 with a degree in Mathematics, and she has been part of the Mathnasium team since that summer. Outside of work, she learns and arranges songs on the piano and plays board games with her family.
Kevin shows students how exciting and relevant math can be, drawing on a research background that's hard to beat: he helped develop a gene-editing nanoinjector, a device small enough to deliver genetic material directly into a cell.
Kevin earned a B.S. in Microbiology from Brigham Young University, taking several advanced math and physics courses along the way. He also interned at a data science company, where he used math on real-world analytics. Off the clock, he likes walking, reading, and exploring what life in space might look like, often through models and simulations he builds himself.
Heidy helps students see how math is used in real life, and that it's a lot more fun than they expected.
She learned this as a mechanical engineer in tech, where math held everything together. Heidy earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, then spent years in Information Technology across government and commercial sectors. There she saw firsthand how much programming and problem-solving depend on strong math skills. She has always loved putting math to work on real problems, and now she brings that enthusiasm to Mathnasium students.
Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.
