Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Mr. Sulu

Center Director

Sulu Jaffer holds a B.A. in Psychology with minors in Biology and Chemistry from UC San Diego. A former Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, Sulu has experience running businesses and joined Mathnasium after seeking math support for his son in 2016.

Since then, he has operated three Mathnasium centers and now leads the Sandy Springs location. Sulu is passionate about helping kids grow from early learners into confident middle schoolers. In his spare time, he trains for triathlons and enjoys high-performance driving. His favorite number is 7, and his race car number is 604.

Mr. Sheri

Assistant Center Director

Sheri studied Political Science and Information Systems in college and spent several years working in IT. A longtime math enthusiast, Sheri enjoys puzzles, logical thinking, and explaining technical topics in fun, accessible ways.

At Mathnasium, he brings curiosity and creativity to every session. He loves making math click for students and learning from them in return. Sheri’s favorite number is 2000, and he’s fascinated by cooking, especially decoding restaurant dishes to recreate them at home.

Ms. Cinya

Instructor

Cinya graduated from Tucker High School and is currently studying computer science at Georgia Tech. She has always been passionate about math and enjoys learning new concepts that stretch her understanding.

She brings that same enthusiasm to her students at Mathnasium, helping them explore math with curiosity and creativity. Her favorite number is 2, and she loves sharing fun facts like how early calculators used to fill entire rooms. Cinya believes math is everywhere, and that learning it should be fun.

Mr. Justin

Instructor

Justin recently graduated from Emory University with a degree in Biology and plans to attend dental school. He has always enjoyed math and problem-solving and loves helping others understand concepts that may seem difficult at first. He hopes to help students become more confident in math and enjoy the process of learning.

Favorite Number: “7! It’s been my lucky number for as long as I can remember.”

Favorite Math Joke: “Why was the math class so long? Because the teacher kept going off on a tangent!”

Fun Fact: “I have played piano for over 15 years and have competed in piano competitions.”

“I love Mathnasium because I enjoy helping students understand math rather than simply memorize how to solve problems. It’s rewarding to see students become more confident as concepts start to make sense.”

Mr. Kojo

Instructor

Kojo is a 4th year undergrad at Georgia Tech studying mathematics and minoring in Physics and Japanese. He’s been teaching at Mathnasium for the past year, and he loves helping students work through tough math concepts using clear and simple intuitions. Outside of teaching, Kojo plays jazz piano and guitar, making music with his drummer best friend.

Favorite Number: “64. Because 7 ate 9. I’m kidding, it’s just a very pretty number to me!”

Favorite Math Joke: “What did 0 say to 8? Nice belt!”

Fun Fact: “Hippos sweat red!”

“I love Mathnasium because I think it’s cool that people go out of their way to teach intuition and comprehension rather than memorization.”

Ms. Amelia

Instructor

Amelia is a junior at Georgia State University. She’s pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and is passionate about learning and teaching the subject.

Favorite Number: “3, because the digits of any number divisible by 3 add up to a number also divisible by 3. 81 (8+1=9), 129 (1+2+9=12), 3 (1+2=3)…”

Favorite Math Joke: “What do you get when you cross a calculator and a friend? Someone you can count on!”

Fun Fact: “I’ve been singing since I was 9.”

“I love Mathnasium because I love seeing students grow and gain confidence in their math skills.”

Mr. Dino

Instructor

Dino is an Aerospace Engineering junior at the Georgia Institute of Technology aiming for a career in rockets, satellites, and rovers. He’s tinkered with project cars in Georgia Tech’s Wreck Racing Club and now hones his liquid rocketry skills as a member of the Yellow Jacket Space Program.

Favorite Number: “4, because I believe this number is not loved enough! Everyone talks about 1, 2, 3, and 5, but no one talks about the number 4.”

Favorite Math Joke: “Why can’t your nose grow to be 12 inches long? Because then it would be a foot!”

Fun Fact: “In high school, I played the French horn for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and mellophone in the marching band.”

“I love Mathnasium because it’s an environment where anyone can learn to love math. The instructors and students can learn from each other and have fun!”

Ms. Vera

Instructor

Vera is a senior at Chamblee High School. She loves teaching because she gets to witness “lightbulb” moments and shape future generations.

Favorite Number: “37. It’s the 12th prime number, and its reverse, 73, is the 21st prime number (the reverse of 12).”

Favorite Math Joke: “Why shouldn’t you sit between twins during a calculus test? It’s impossible to differentiate between them!”

Fun Fact: “I was a Mathnasium student for 6 years!”

“I love Mathnasium because when I was a student, it helped me catch up, keep up, and get ahead in school.”

Our Mathnasium Mission
