What do you like most about learning?

Those ah-ha moments when an insight explains a pattern.

What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?

One student in her first session came in convinced she had figured out the math for her assignment and she was initially not very receptive. After looking at some problems together, she changed into an open minded learner. It has been awesome to see her growth in both her math and her learning.

How do you make learning math fun for students?

I'm an accessible teacher who creates an environment where students feel comfortable being themselves and asking questions.

What do you like most about learning?

Learning is a two-way street: not only do students learn from their teachers, but teachers also learn about themselves from their students and are always making new discoveries about their subject through their teaching. Also, learning is an ongoing process that continues for our entire lives!

What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?

I’ve had several students who wanted nothing to do with math and who had a very low confidence level in math when I first started with them, but by the time I finished teaching them they looked forward to coming to math class and their grades improved dramatically.

How do you make learning math fun for students?

I love to teach my students fun mental math tricks that help them to see the connections between numbers and make math interesting for them!

Make jokes and be funny!

When students are doing well, I believe in praising and rewarding them!

What do you like most about learning?

I found a passion for teaching while working with Mathnasium. Being able to help students understand math is a challenge I enjoy.

What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?

Putting myself in their shoes and making the math problems easy to understand has been my biggest impact with the students.

How do you make learning math fun for students?

I give them incentives. We usually have math challenges and/or games to motivate them throughout the session.

What do you like most about learning?

I like when I explain a problem and the students have their “ohhh” moment. Seeing them have the realization that they understand the problem and that it is easier than it seems is what I like most about being a teacher.

What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?

The techniques and strategies that I teach the students makes them have the ability to become proficient and even exceed.

How do you make learning math fun for students?

I make math fun by using manipulatives. Students love manipulatives and having first hand experience with the exercises makes them look less scary.

What do you like most about learning?

I like to gain fresh ideas and learn new things.

What is the biggest impact you’ve had on a student’s ability to become proficient in math?

My biggest impact I’ve had with the students is making them interested in math, helping them use math in their daily life, and making it fun for them.

How do you make learning math fun for students?

What I do for students to find math fun is to link the problems to real life. I embed math to everything in their daily life, and that way they can understand the concepts better.
