Tevin joined Mathnasium in December 2017 and quickly discovered his passion for helping children make math make sense. An alumnus of Michigan Technological University, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science.
Originally thinking the job would be temporary, Tevin found that the joy of seeing students excel and the support of the Mathnasium family made it a career. He loves watching students gain understanding and confidence that extends beyond the center.
Emily is a recent graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Actuarial Science. She has tutored students from preschool through calculus for over five years, both formally and informally.
Passionate about helping students gain skills and confidence, Emily believes math is a learned skill that anyone can master. She looks forward to creating a stress-free learning experience for every student she works with.
Lori began tutoring in junior high, sparking a lifelong love for teaching. She studied at the University of Michigan and became a certified teacher, spending 15 years teaching high school math in southwestern Michigan and another 15 years in Colorado.
After moving back home to care for her mother, Lori found a welcoming place at Mathnasium. She enjoys helping students discover that math can be accessible and rewarding.
Amos earned his B.S. in Biology from Emory University and his M.S. in Data Science from Northwestern University. Having once found math intimidating, he grew to appreciate its depth and beauty over time and now hopes to help students experience that same transformation. At Mathnasium, Amos is passionate about helping kids of all ages not just learn math, but truly excel at it. His favorite topic to teach is statistics, as it combines logical thinking with real-world application. He especially enjoys seeing the “aha” moment when a concept clicks for a student—their excitement and confidence make teaching incredibly rewarding. Outside of Mathnasium, Amos has a unique talent: he can whistle and hum at the same time!
Rocco earned his Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Physics from Michigan State University and his Master’s in Mathematics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. A passionate teacher, he joined Mathnasium to help students of all ages grow their confidence and discover the beauty of mathematics. His favorite topic to teach is algebra, as it’s the first time students begin to see math as a fun and challenging puzzle. Since 2016, Rocco has enjoyed tutoring and teaching on university campuses, always motivated by the “lightbulb” moments when students truly understand a concept. Outside of Mathnasium, Rocco enjoys playing video games and listening to music. His favorite math quote is from one of his professors at MSU: “Everything in math is the hardest thing in the world until you figure it out, and then it’s trivial.”
Fred brings more than 30 years of math teaching experience to Mathnasium, having taught at Stevenson High School and Schoolcraft College. He holds multiple advanced degrees, including an M.A. in Math and an MBA from EMU, and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from U of M-Dearborn.
Though recently retired from full-time teaching, Fred couldn’t resist continuing to share his love for math. He especially enjoys teaching Geometry’s conditional statements for their real-world logic applications. Outside the classroom, Fred is a seasoned tennis coach, chess player, and boater who still plays doubles every Sunday night—a tradition since 1981!
